Meal Plan Services for the Hangry, Busy, and Thrifty Law Student

March 14, 2018 By Christen Morgan Leave a Comment

Meal Plan Services for the "Hangry," Busy and Thrifty Law StudentAfter a long day of classes or studying in the law school library, there is nothing more appealing than coming home to a hot delicious meal. Sadly, this isn’t a reality for most law students and is even further from the truth for a bar exam prepper. If I’m speaking more realistically, the average law student spends most of their day at school remaining afloat with a diet based primarily on caffeine. Unfortunately, by the time he or she realizes that they are hungry, they head home with high hopes of satiation which are quickly deflated by the empty fridge and cupboards. Therefore, said student throws together whatever semi-edible concoction they can find, then heads to bed only to re-do the same thing the very next day.

If you’re a law student or bar prepper who has experienced some semblance of the above, I get it. You’re a busy bee who has no time to get groceries. In fact, you may actually prefer going to bed “hangry” rather than sparing the extra hour that it would take to grab some items from your local supermarket. I have faced this predicament before myself and there is no judgment on my end. But what if I told you that your “hangriness” could end today? What if I told you that there were numerous alternatives to a grocery store trip available that could cure those hunger pangs? Well I have some good news! In today’s millennial age, there is no shortage of meal delivery services geared towards meeting the taste buds, the diet and the pockets of each diverse law student. Lucky for you I took the time to run through these alternatives and put together a post that highlights the benefits of each service. I’ve broken these options down into prepared meals selections and ingredient delivery services. I hope that at least one of these options are beneficial to your current needs and lifestyle.

Prepared Meals

If you dread the thought of going grocery shopping, there’s also the possibility that you may dread actually cooking the items that you’ve purchased. If you fall into this category and you would love to come home each day to a home cooked meal at the snap of a finger, then a prepared meal delivery service may be the best option for you. By prepared meal, I’m not referring to your average takeout delivery service. Instead, I’m referring to meals that have already been prepared by chefs, delivered to your home and are ready to heat up and enjoy. Interested? How about trying Freshly?

Freshly

Freshly offers fresh, never frozen, healthy, chef-prepared meals, which are delivered straight to your door. How does steak peppercorn with sauteed carrots sound after a long day of Contracts or bruschetta chicken sound after a day of tackling 100 MBE questions? Well these are actual menu items that you can enjoy without lifting a finger. I think the best part about Freshly is the reasonable pricing. They offer meal plans starting at $49.99 for four meals a week and only an additional $10 for six meals a week. Now let’s keep it real, you know you probably spend more than $15 on average ordering takeout each night, so why not spend less on meals that are freshly prepared and actually good for you? They also currently have a Groupon special for new customers which offers 30% off your first order. Definitely give this a try before the deal runs out!

Ingredient Delivery Services

Ok, I know you probably paused for a bit when you got to this section or you might be disregarding it altogether, because, who has the time to prepare these delivered ingredients? Well I hand-picked the Ingredient delivery services that are super quick to prepare and that are reasonably priced. All these ingredients are for the most part pre-portioned and can usually be prepared in 30 minutes or less. Therefore, I hope you can keep an open mind and give one of the below a try:

Home Chef

Home Chef is an excellent ingredient delivery service because it provides meal options that caters to varying dietary restrictions. Therefore, if you have a particular food allergy or if you’re simply trying to avoid certain foods, there is more than likely a menu option available that can fit your needs. The best part is that they deliver their menu five weeks in advance so that you can plan ahead of time and if there’s a week that you’re not feeling the menu, you can skip it. Ok I lied, that’s not really the best part, how could I forget the cost!? At $10 per meal, Home Chef is cheaper than your average ingredient delivery service and also probably works out cheaper than your typical grocery store visit. They currently have an offer for $30 off your first order, so now is a great time to give this a try!

Green Chef

At $10.50 per meal, Green Chef is close behind Home Chef in pricing. However, Green Chef’s primary focus is to offer USDA-certified organic meal kits to its customers. Therefore, if your primary focus is healthy eating, this may just be the meal plan option for you. They offer gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, paleo and keto menus. I can definitely attest to how difficult it is to remain healthy when studying. However, eating healthy can certainly influence your performance on any exam. Also, with the option of having $25 off your first order, this is certainly an affordable way to kickstart a healthy diet.

Hello Fresh

Hello Fresh is one of the more well-known ingredient delivery options. It’s still within reason despite its higher pricing of $60 for three meals per week. Hello Fresh provides pre-measured ingredients many of which are designed to be cooked in under 30 minutes. They offer Classic, Vegetarian and Family-Style meal options to fit your lifestyle. Now, if you’re a budgeting law student don’t let this $60 price tag alarm you. This pricing covers three meals a week for two people. Therefore, this equates to six meals in total. If you only have one mouth to feed that’s a pretty good deal. Additionally, students are entitled to 15% off every Hello Fresh box. If you’ve already graduated and you’re currently prepping for the bar exam, there are also discount options available for you. There’s currently a 50% off special and there is also a Groupon offering one week of Classic Meals for Two for $30.

Put a stop to your “hangriness,” and give one of the above meal plan options a try!
