Favorite Civil Procedure Supplement: Anything by Professor Glannon

Are you taking Civil Procedure this semester? Are you confused (like most everyone else is) in Civil Procedure? If so, you would be wise to invest in a quality Civil Procedure supplement. Our two favorites are by Professor Glannon. One is from the Examples and Explanation Series, and the other is called the Glannon Guide to Civil Procedure: Learning Civil Procedure Through Multiple-Choice Questions and Analysis. Both are quality supplements (and I will be honest, both are on my bookshelf). If your professor is going to test using multiple choice, you might like the Learning Civil Procedure Through Multiple Choice Questions and Analysis. Law school multiple choice can be challenging (and different from multiple choice tests of the past) and it is helpful to use a supplement that shows you how multiple choice questions test the subject area.

The Examples and Explanations supplement is great and, like other books in the series, it gives you plenty of factual scenarios with which to test your knowledge of the subject area. This is very important in Civil Procedure because it can at times feel like the law is simple, until you apply it to a fact pattern. Don’t believe me? Pick up the book and go through a few of the hypos – you might be surprised how difficult some of the material can actually be.

I also think supplements are especially helpful for classes that focus the most on codified law. It is so easy to get caught up in memorizing code sections and get away from understanding how the law actually functions in the real world. A quality supplement can help with that knowledge and give the law you are studying some context.

Do you have a favorite supplement for Civil Procedure? If so, share it in the comments!

A reader shared another Civ Pro recommendation on our facebook page, so I thought I would add it here as well. Her professor recommends: Civil Procedure (3rd Ed.) by Richard Freer (http://amzn.com/1454802227). She said it is written in a narrative that is easy to understand and she finds it incredibly helpful.

Cannot emphasize enough how good ANYTHING by Professor Glannon is. I have him for Civil Procedure currently and he’s phenomenal. Highly recommend his series.
