Online Legal Networking: Twitter

June 6, 2015 By Lee Burgess Leave a Comment

twitter

We think Twitter is a powerful tool. It makes us mad when we go to conferences or listen to panels and hear how “ineffective” Twitter is at helping with networking.

Twitter is a realistic, easy-to-use, and effective way to meet new people. (Remember, we met on Twitter, so we are not kidding about this!)  [Read more…] about Online Legal Networking: Twitter

Don’t Make This Networking Mistake

June 6, 2015 By Lee Burgess Leave a Comment

networking mistake

We have talked a lot on the Law School Toolbox about how to network. We encourage law students, recent grads, and lawyers to reach out to us and to others whom they think would be helpful. lunch date

I recently attended a workshop hosted by Bryan Cave’s San Francisco Office as part of the firm’s Women’s Initiative. The workshop was lead by coaches from Suite Track. At the end of the presentation, the coaches challenged the women in the room to all find four professional friends to invite to a lunch, once a month, to talk about career-related stuff.

Do You Have the Right Mindset for Your Legal Career?

June 6, 2015 By Lee Burgess Leave a Comment

right mindset

I know you are likely busy like all lawyers and law students. But if you have time to read one book this summer, we have a suggestion for you. We suggest you get a copy of Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol Dweck. I was introduced to this book while at a talk for undergraduates on on leadership and business. The keynote speaker was a former lawyer turned career coach, Michelle Bauman. Michelle talked about how transforming her mindset lead her to a more fulfilling career path, even though she had been a very successful attorney prior to becoming a coach.
